Our Eco Packaging Breakdown

Why We Choose Eco-Friendly Packaging

At Blossom & Sky, we feel sustainability is a responsibility, especially when creating beautiful natural products. From our luxurious skincare to our handcrafted soaps and signature sustainable candle lamps, we pour the same love and care into our packaging as we do into our products. Here’s how we’re wrapping your favourite items in eco-friendly goodness, complete with some fun facts you might not know.

Skincare Packaging: Smart, Sustainable, and Practical

When designing packaging for our skincare products, we wanted something that aligned with our values while remaining practical for your everyday routines. That’s why we’ve chosen a blend of 100% PCR PET plastic, PP plastic, and paper.

  • What is PCR plastic?
PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled plastic, which means it’s made from plastics that used to be bottles, containers, or other items. Instead of ending up in landfills, these materials are repurposed to create something new—like our skincare packaging!

    • Fun Fact: Recycling just one ton of plastic saves 5,774 kWh of energy—that’s enough to power an average home for six months!
  • Why not glass?
While glass is eco-friendly and beautiful, it’s not always practical for travel or shower use. We opted for PCR plastic and PP plastic because they’re lightweight, durable, and easy to recycle—making them perfect for skincare that travels with you.

    • Fun Fact: PP plastic is one of the safest plastics for skincare packaging and is even resistant to heat, so it keeps your products fresh and secure!

Shipping: Sustainable From Start to Finish

We don’t stop at skincare packaging—our shipping materials are just as eco-conscious!

  • Biodegradable Everything: From sticky tape to fragile tape and bubble wrap, all our protective materials are biodegradable. This means they’ll break down naturally, leaving no harmful traces behind.

    • Fun Fact: Biodegradable bubble wrap takes just a few months to decompose, compared to traditional plastic bubble wrap, which can take hundreds of years!
  • Mailers and Boxes: We source our packing boxes from Australian companies, supporting local businesses while reducing our carbon footprint. For larger orders, we reuse boxes whenever possible.

    • Fun Fact: Reusing one ton of cardboard saves 46 gallons of oil and 700 gallons of water—so every reused box makes a big impact!
  • Reusable Packaging: While we aim to use eco-friendly materials, we also believe in giving all packaging a second life by reusing any non-eco-friendly materials we receive, such as foam wrap or bubble wrap. This helps us minimise waste and contribute to a more sustainable packaging process. However we would never purchase new non eco friendly products intentionally.

Handcrafted Soap: Wrapped in Nature

Our soaps are made with love—and wrapped with care in cellulose, a biodegradable and compostable material derived from plant fibers.

  • What makes cellulose special?

    • It’s made from renewable resources like wood pulp or cotton.
    • It’s breathable, which helps keep our soaps fresh while still being eco-friendly.
    • It breaks down completely in composting conditions, leaving no waste behind.
  • Fun Fact: Cellulose is the same material used in casings for some vegan sausages and capsules for supplements. Talk about versatile!

Why It Matters

At Blossom & Sky, we know that even small decisions can make a big difference. By choosing sustainable materials like PCR plastic, biodegradable shipping supplies, and cellulose, we’re doing our part to reduce waste and protect the planet.

We also reuse any packing materials we might receive when shipping our glass products, from cardboard boxes to foam packaging.

A Few More Fun Facts About Our Packaging

  1. Cellulose is Magic: It decomposes in just a few weeks in compost, making it one of the fastest eco-friendly materials to break down.
  2. Australian Pride: By sourcing our boxes locally, we cut down on emissions from long-distance shipping.
  3. Closing the Loop: Using PCR plastic creates a circular economy where waste becomes a resource, reducing the need for new raw materials.

Our Commitment to the Future

Sustainability is a journey, and we’re always looking for ways to improve. Whether it’s exploring innovative materials or tweaking our processes to be more efficient, we’re committed to growing alongside our customers and the planet.

Thank you for supporting us as we continue to create products (and packaging) that are kind to you and the Earth. Let’s make sustainability the new standard—together!
